Driving into Inspiration

Heyyo everyone, My name is Anish Ghosh and I am hoping to make a magazine about Indian culture with a target audience of second generation indian immigrants in the United States and Europe. Since I’m almost fully committed to this genre and target audience I began my research on inspirations and magazine names.

In my time in India, I was immensely intrigued by the truck and bus designs: most of the government vehicles in the country are painted with wonderful designs and can be recognized from a mile away by any Indian. I hope mimicking this design will catch Indian readers attention while passing by the magazine on any kind of marketing presence. Here are some pictures of the buses taken from CNN.

In each state in India there is a signature bumper painting used that mostly means Honk your horn. I think I’llname my magazine one of these phrases in hindi because it is the most spoken language in India. Below I have listed different bumper paintings that are seen across India.
  • Horn OK Please
  • Horn Maro (Hit your horn)
  • Awaz Dedo (Give some noise)
  • Awaz Do (Make some Noise)
  • TATA OK (Goodbye Okay)

I have researched a few magazines with similar styles and target audiences that I am hoping to target as well.

Filmfare is an Indian Film magazine that targets  young adults of Indian descent that speak English. Written on this advertising website is “Filmfare is an English-language tabloid-sized bi-weekly magazine about Indian cinema. With its exclusive interviews, classy photo-shoots, insider stories, sneak peeks, bollywood fashion coverage, movie reviews and special features, Filmfare captures bollywood's biggest stars and divas at their most colorful & candid best.” (The Media Ant, n.d.)

Additionally I found a magazine called Platform. This magazine is committed to providing a platform for all kinds of artists with mostly Indian background. From fashion to film to music, this magazine is very inspiring for my intended magazine as seen on the Platform Magazine website.
